Focus on healthy eating
Our school for children with disabilities hosted an event to raise the awareness of healthy eating and offer advice on child nutrition to all our families. We were delighted Dr S was able to present along with the staff team at the school. 50 people attended all who had children attending our school.
“I find it difficult to feed my child, it is expensive and not easy to make them eat new things. Eating is a tense time for us. They don’t find it easy to sit and concentrate while eating. They just get frustrated with it all and get angry” Local Mother
At our school many of the families find it challenging to feed their children at home for a variety of reasons. The session was practical providing helpful tips and reassurance for the parents
It is not uncommon for mothers to say that they are struggling with their children and they say to us that the children’s behaviour is worse at home. We found that the families opened up at this session.
Locally having a child with a disability can be perceived as a curse, we know that the parents blame themselves and as a result not take care of the children. We know of cases where children have been locked away.
“We seek to turn those perceived curses into blessing and reach out to both the child and their parents. We want families to understand they aren’t along. By being part of our loving school community we support the child on their learning journey and provide the advice and practical help that their parents and carers need” Vasthi
